The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board has continued to welcome international students and teachers to our system for short term study programs. Over the years, schools have had wonderful opportunities to host students and educators coming from various countries: Spain, Colombia, Italy, China, South Korea etc. Our school hopes to have the opportunity to host international groups over the next school year and therefore we hope to promote the homestay experience to members of our community as our visitors do need to be placed in homes within our community when they are here for an educational experience.
Caring host families are wanted to provide homestay for international students for periods of 3 – 12 weeks. International guests, keen to make new friends and ready to share their own stories and culture, enrich the lives of their host families. They teach their host families about recipes and traditions from around the world and help their hosts to rediscover their own city again.
Hosts provide much more than bed and board; they provide a launching pad for a visitor embarking on an exciting journey. Their home becomes a window into Canadian culture and lifestyle as they share birthday parties, trips to the supermarket, and hellos between friends. Many international students come to be considered a part of their host’s family before long, and often stay in touch for years after the homestay placement ends.
Canada Homestay International provides the OCDSB and its hosting families with a carefully matched student placement, pre-arrival orientation, a monthly stipend to offset expenses, ongoing relationship management and support, as well as the reassurance of a 24/7 emergency support service. Please call them at: 613- 686-6764 ext. 2044 or visit them on the web at: canadahomestayinternational.com to find out more!
