Welcome to the Glebe Collegiate Institute Library
“A
school is the most
democratic place for a child
to have access to
books and electronic
resources—not only textbooks but books
to read for
pleasure and resources for acquiring information and knowledge. The
school library offers them a ‘safe’ environment in
which to learn and
practice information literacy skills. It is a wonderful setting to let
their imaginations soar by discovering the joy and wonder of simply
reading... Let us not forget that our children must know how to read
before they can learn to find resources on the Internet. They need to
learn the skills to help them analyze the sources of all this
information—be it in print or in electronic form.”
(Roch Carrier, the National Librarian of CanadaIMPACT Fall 2001)
The Glebe Collegiate library is committed to fostering lifelong enthusiasm for reading and learning and to teaching our students the skills they need to become information literate and effective, responsible users of ideas and information. The mission of the library program is accomplished:
- by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats.
- by providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas.
- by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students.
